How to prepare an epicrisis
Building the treatment summary from reusable text blocks, and the access rule for patient-portal PDF links since 1 September 2026.
Where to find it
Epicrisis
The epicrisis is the document summarising the treatment a patient received. It matters more in medical tourism than elsewhere: once home, the patient sees their own doctor for follow-up, and this is the only document that doctor has.
It is built from two parts in the panel: Epicrisis Items (reusable text blocks, each with a Title and Content) and the epicrisis record composed from them.
Step by step
- Prepare the blocks on Epicrisis Items: the procedure performed, materials used, medication instructions, the follow-up schedule.
- Create the patient's epicrisis record and choose the blocks it uses.
- Download the document as a PDF from the panel and send it to the patient.
Tips and common mistakes
- Careful Since 1 September 2026 patient-portal links for quote, epicrisis and booking-form PDFs require sign-in, and a patient can only open their own document. Before that, anyone who knew the link could download another patient's file. Direct links shared previously no longer work — download the document from the panel and send it.
- Careful On the panel side too, staff can only download PDFs for patients they can see; the rule is the same as patient visibility.
- Tip Write blocks per procedure, not per patient. Add patient-specific detail when composing the document; the value of the blocks is that they are reusable.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get the epicrisis to the patient?
Download the PDF from the panel and send it. Do not share old direct portal links — they now require sign-in.
What is the difference between an epicrisis and a consultation?
A consultation is an internal review before treatment; the epicrisis is the summary given to the patient afterwards.
Which language should I write it in?
One the patient's doctor at home can read. In practice most clinics write in English; your patient language record can guide the choice.
